Slow motion, ramps and tightening

Speed & time

Time is a creative tool. Speed up a boring stretch, ramp into a hero moment, hold on a freeze frame, or automatically cut the dead air out of a talking clip. These controls live in the Inspector's Speed section when a clip is selected.

Speed, reverse and freeze frame

Inspector › Speed

Change how fast a clip plays, run it backwards, or hold a single frame.

  1. Select a clip and open Speed in the Inspector.
  2. Set the Speed value to slow down (below 100%) or speed up (above 100%).
  3. Toggle Reverse playback, or add a Freeze frame to hold the current image.

Smooth slow motion

Inspector › Speed › Smooth slow-mo

Instead of duplicating frames, Caliptus can generate new in-between frames for fluid slow motion.

  1. Slow a clip down, then enable Smooth slow-mo.
  2. Choose the Standard engine for a fast, optical-flow result.
  3. Choose the AI engine (RIFE) for superior quality on complex motion; the model downloads on first use and the render takes longer.

Smooth slow-mo is applied on export, so playback stays responsive while you edit.

Speed curves (ramps)

Inspector › Speed › Speed curve

Vary the speed within a single clip for cinematic ramps: slow, then snap to fast, then slow again.

  1. Open Speed curve on the selected clip.
  2. Pick a preset shape such as Ease in, Ease out, Hero or Flash.
  3. The clip is split into segments at different speeds to create the ramp.

Cut silences

Inspector › Cut silences

Automatically detect and remove the quiet gaps in a talking clip, tightening the pace in one pass.

  1. Select a clip that has speech.
  2. Open Cut silences and set the Silence threshold, minimum silence length and a little Breathing room.
  3. Apply: the clip is split into spoken parts with the silences removed.
