Data controller
The data described here is processed by the individual running Caliptus, on a personal, non-commercial basis (there is no company behind this project).
Publisher: Caliptus, a project published by an individual on a non-professional basis.
Data collected
Six separate processing activities exist, each with its own purpose. None of them involves your videos, projects or files: editing, export and the AI tools run entirely on your machine.
User account (optional)
If you create an account: your email address, your password (encrypted, never stored in plain text), and the display name and language you choose. No other data, never your videos or projects. You do not need an account to edit; a free account is required to export, and it also lets you sync your preferences and publish on the community marketplace. For security, login attempts (email address and hashed IP address) are kept for 30 days. Once you sign in to the website, a strictly necessary session cookie keeps you signed in; it is removed when you sign out. Simply visiting the website sets none.
Download waitlist
If you sign up to be notified at launch: your email address and chosen language, with explicit double opt-in confirmation (you must click a confirmation link sent by email). An unconfirmed sign-up is deleted after 30 days. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email: your address is then deleted.
Contact form
If you write to us through the contact form: your name, email address, subject and message, so that we can reply. Your IP address is hashed and only used to limit abuse.
Site audience measurement
The website records the pages visited, some interactions (clicks on the main buttons, download, language change, outbound links reduced to their domain name) and technical display errors, without any cookie. Your IP address is hashed with a salt that changes every day, which prevents linking your visits from one day to the next; it is never stored in plain text. No personal data is included in these events, and no third-party tool (Google Analytics, Meta or similar) is used. Each page view comes with the display language and the screen type (mobile, tablet, desktop); when you arrive, only the name of the site you came from is noted, never the address of the page. Page loading speed (load times measured by your browser) is also recorded, tied only to the page and the screen type, without any IP address. The site also notes how far a page is read (half or nearly all of it), the filters chosen and, for a search, only the length of the text and the number of results, never the text itself.
App usage statistics (off by default)
If you turn them on in the app, Caliptus sends technical statistics: features used, crash reports, errors, app version and operating system. They are tied to a random identifier specific to the installation, never to your account. They never contain your media, projects, text, or the names or paths of your files. You can turn them off at any time: sending stops immediately and the data waiting on your machine is deleted.
AI model downloads
The first time you use certain AI features (automatic subtitles, background removal, interpolation, styles), the app downloads the required models directly from GitHub and Hugging Face, located in the United States. These services then receive your IP address, as with any download. Caliptus sends them no other data.
Legal basis and purposes
The account is based on the performance of the contract between you and Caliptus (terms of use). The waitlist and the app usage statistics are based on your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time. Website audience measurement is based on the legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used, made proportionate by the absence of cookies and by hashing the IP address as soon as it is received. The contact form and login security are based on the legitimate interest in answering your requests and protecting accounts.
Recipients and hosting
The data is hosted by OVHcloud in the European Union; it is the only provider that processes it on behalf of Caliptus. It is neither sold nor shared, and Caliptus makes no transfer outside the European Union. Apart from content you publish yourself on the marketplace, only the site administrators have access to it. The AI model downloads described above happen directly between your device and GitHub or Hugging Face.
Retention period
Account data is kept for as long as the account exists. Waitlist sign-ups are kept until the product launches or until you unsubscribe, which deletes them; an unconfirmed sign-up is deleted after 30 days. Contact messages are kept for 12 months. Audience measurement events and app usage statistics are kept for 90 days (180 days for crash reports), then deleted automatically; only daily totals, without any personal data, are kept for 25 months. Login attempts are kept for 30 days.
Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, object to and port your personal data. For the waitlist, unsubscribing is self-service (link in every email). App statistics are turned off in the app; those already sent can be erased from the app's Privacy menu, which also shows your installation identifier if you would rather write to us. They are not linked to your identity and are deleted automatically anyway, within the periods stated on this page. For an account, there is no self-service deletion yet: contact us by email to exercise this right, and your request will be handled within one month. You can also lodge a complaint with the data protection authority of your country (in France, the CNIL).
Audience measurement: your choice
Audience measurement on this site is anonymous and cookie-free. You can still refuse it: your choice is kept in this browser and applies immediately, without sending anything. If your browser asks not to be tracked (Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track), no visit is measured.
